STOREY COUNTY, NV - A man is able to walk away from the scene after his car plunges into a canal near the Fernley area.
Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says a man around the age of 20 was driving a car in the area locally referred to as The Sand Dunes.
Sheriff Antinoro says the driver told deputies his car slipped down the sandy terrain and went downhill. He was unable to get the car to stop in time and landed in the canal.
The dive team was en route from Washoe County, however, they were ultimately called off.
The driver was the only person inside of the car, according to Sheriff Antinoro.
The sheriff says the driver is okay and is out of the car.
Officials with the Storey County Sheriff's Office are investigating this incident.
