UPDATE: Burbank Fire in Smith Valley at 1,063 Acres, 2 Structures Lost

UPDATE: According to Sierra Front the fire located in the area of Burbank Canyon has reached at least 1,063 acres and is still threatening homes at this time. Two abandoned mining shacks were the only structures lost Saturday.

Sierra Front reports there were two injuries reported on the fire Saturday, one for smoke inhalation and one for dehydration. Both injuries were treated.

Currently, the fire is 10 percent contained with no estimate of containment or control. Firefighters are anticipating gusty winds this afternoon with erratic fire behavior, but are working hard continuing to construct hand line and dozer line around the fire with support from helicopters.

Structure protection remains in place along Colony Road.

Agencies on Scene/Requested - Smith Valley Fire Protection District, East Fork Fire Protection District, Bureau of Land Management, Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, Mason Valley Fire Protection District, 2 Type 3 Engine Strike teams, Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Lyon County Search and Rescue, Lyon County Road Department.

Evacuations/Road Closures

Incident Commander advises that a number of homes in the area have been temporarily evacuated. There have been no reported structures burned or lost and no reported injuries/fatalities. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Search and Rescue, and Road Department are managing traffic control in the area. Access in the area is restricted to Fire units and emergency personnel.

Smith Valley - A wildland fire in the area of Pinon and Lower Colony Road with structures threatened. Smith Valley Fire, BLM, East Fork Fire are responding. The Smith Valley Fire District has requested two strike teams of Brush Engines as well as air resources and water tenders from Lyon County.

Mason Valley - A wildland fire in the area of of Highway 339 and Nordyke Road. No structures are threatened at this time.

Dayton - A wildland fire in the Rawe Peak area with no structures threatened at this time.

OEM has no further information at this time. Unknown if evacuations are being requested. OEM will update as soon as further information is available
