CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The daily newspaper in Nevada's capital
city is the first in the state to announce it'll start charging a fee for online service.

The Nevada Appeal of Carson City said Wednesday that service begins Nov. 2 on a free-trial basis.

The policy includes the Appeal's sister newspapers, the Lahontan Valley News and the Record-Courier of Gardnerville.

After Nov. 30, print subscribers will be billed $1.95 a month for full access to www.nevadaappeal.com . Online readers will pay $6.95.

Appeal Editor Dennis Noone says it's reasonable to charge a few dollars for Carson City news and features.

One main story, some breaking news, photos, obituaries, classified ads and the Web calendar will be online for free.

Swift has 29 publications in California, Colorado, Oregon, Nebraska, Nevada and South Dakota.
