CARSON CITY, NV - Leonardo Cardoza has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years. The decision came in Carson District Court Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
Cardoza had been convicted of first degree murder in the death of Desiree Bragg.
Sheriff's detectives say Bragg and her fiancee were driving to her mother's house in January of 2013 when Cardoza started following their car closely. They say when Desiree got out of the car, Cardoza slammed his van into her, pinning her between the vehicle and the home.
Cardoza said it was an accident; he said he was drunk and afraid for his life from Bragg's fiancee, and accidentally moved the van forward instead of reverse while trying to leave the area, hitting Bragg.
