RENO, NV - A status hearing was held Monday in the case of a former SPCA employee who allegedly performed surgery on a dog while she was employed at the facility as a manager.
Court documents say Hope HawKinson performed surgery on a dog without anesthesia on September 26th, 2012. The dog survived but only with emergency intervention.
The documents say Hawkinson was practicing veterinarian medicine without a license and faces felony animal cruelty charges as well.
A deputy attorney general and a public defender met Monday, agreeing to investigate the case further. They will meet again August 20th.
Hawkinson could face probation or up to four years in prison if convicted.
