RENO, Nev. (AP) - An Incline Village woman has been given an official warning not to feed bears.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife says resident Jane Green was cited by a game warden Saturday. It was the first official warning issued under a new law that makes it illegal to feed big game animals.

A second violation carries a possible $250 fine. Fines for subsequent violations can reach $500.

The warning comes a week after wildlife officials trapped and killed a 260-pound male that had broken into a car and entered a condominium. The people who reported problems with the bear then received death threats from others who blamed them for the bear's death.

Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says feeding bears makes them unafraid of humans and a threat to public safety.
