CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has named 13 people to a commission that will plan and coordinate Nevada 150th birthday bash.

Nevada became a state on Oct. 31, 1864. A yearlong celebration of events will kick off this fall, culminating with the Nevada Day celebration in 2014.

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki will serve as chairman of the 150th Anniversary Commission, which will submit quarterly reports to the governor.

Commission members represent a variety of interests, including history, the arts and education. They also represent Nevada's differing regions, from the rural areas to the gambling mecca of Las Vegas, as well as Native American cultures.

Sandoval says the 150th anniversary will celebrate Nevada's rich history and look toward its future.
