CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - State Budget Director Andrew Clinger
has been tapped to become city manager of Reno.

Reno Mayor Bob Cashell on Wednesday said he is recommending the City Council hire Clinger for the post.

Clinger has worked in state government since 1997. He was named
budget director in 2005 by former Gov. Kenny Guinn, and retained
his position under both former Gov. Jim Gibbons and current Gov.
Brian Sandoval.

Sandoval in a statement says the city of Reno will be lucky to
have Clinger on staff, and praised him for his "steady hand"
during what is arguably the most difficult budget process in Nevada
history.

Clinger's appointment must be ratified by the City Council.

Clinger says the Reno job wouldn't be effective until after the
legislature session ends.
