ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man for drilling into a gas tank in rural northeast Nevada, where there has been rash of gas tank thefts this summer.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports officers arrested 45 year-old Todd Gunnels Saturday night in Ryndon.
Undersheriff Clair Morris says Gunnels was caught when a father spotted him loitering, noticed his son's gas tank had been drilled into, watched Gunnels return to his home, then called the police.
Police say the gas thieves have hit more than a dozen vehicles this summer, drilling holes in gas tanks and apparently draining the fuel into buckets.
They don't know yet if Gunnels was responsible for all the gas tank drillings. He posted bail on Sunday.
