RENO, Nev. -- Firefighters rescued a tiny deer from a raging wildfire in Douglas County, Nevada Friday.
Firefighters dubbed the baby deer "Hope." They rescued it from near the fire lines of the Bison Fire, burning in the Pine Nut mountain range east of Minden/Gardnerville.
The fawn is so young its spots are still vivid and it is small enough for a person to easily cradle it his or her arms.
Fire crews did not find the baby's mother. They took the fawn to a nearby veterinarian for a check-up.
The Bison Fire was caused by a lightning strike on the afternoon of July 4th in the Buffalo Canyon area. As of Friday afternoon was only about 20% contained.
