CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Wildlife Commission has canceled the sage grouse hunting season in one northern Nevada area because of wildfires.
Commissioners voted Friday to scrub the 10-day season in hunt unit 031 in northern Humboldt County. The area is northwest of Winnemucca extends to the Oregon line, where the Holloway fire this summer burned more than 450,000 acres.
Officials say a lot of sage grouse habitat was burned.
The season was to have run from Sept. 25 through Oct. 4.
