RENO, Nev. -- A fatal crash on Interstate 80 east of Reno/Sparks held up traffic for hours Saturday night.

Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) Trooper Barbara Stapleton tells KOLO 8 News Now that the call of a crash near Mile Marker 39 came in just before 9pm.

The preliminary investigation shows a 42-year-old Fernley woman was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-80. Troopers tried to stop her, but she hit a pickup head-on. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody from the pickup was seriously hurt. Original reports from the NHP indicated no other vehicles were involved.

Our KOLO 8 News Now crew says traffic was backed up on eastbound I-80 as far as Derby Dam.
