Ex-Sparks Lawyer Wins $150k for Age Discrimination

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - The city of Sparks has agreed to pay $150,000 to a former employee who sued the city for age discrimination.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://tinyurl.com/bg5bgq6 ) the city council voted unanimously on Monday to approve the settlement with former senior assistant city attorney Timothy Randolf.

The 56-year-old Randolf filed a federal lawsuit last summer accusing the city of illegally forcing him out of his job of about four years in December 2008.

City officials had argued he lost his job because of budget cuts. Randolf's lawsuit said he should have been spared the layoff based on seniority. He says Sparks City Attorney Chet Adams told him his choice was to either quit or be fired.
