ELKO, Nev. (AP) - An ex-prostitute convicted of attacking a co-worker with a claw hammer in a dispute over missing beer at a rural Nevada brothel has been sentenced to nearly 19 years in prison.
Lisa Wong was convicted this summer in the August 2012 beating of Sang Fowler, a fellow employee at Sharon's Bar and Brothel in Carlin about 25 miles east of Elko on U.S. Interstate 80.
District Court Judge Al Kacin sentenced her Thursday for what prosecutors said was a vicious, unprovoked attack on an ex-friend.
Fowler survived but suffered severe injuries to her head and hand.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/ow4pvhv ) public defender Roger Stewart told the judge that the 50-year-old Wong made a mistake by rejecting plea bargain offers that would have meant less prison time.
