Longtime Elko Fire Chief Alan Kightlinger is retiring, again, and this time he says it's for good.
Kightlinger received a minute-long standing ovation at Tuesday
night's city council meeting when he announced his retirement
effective Friday. Mayor Mike Franzoia said they will miss his sunny
personality and smile.
Kightlinger served as Elko fire chief from 1997 until his first resignation in June 2008. However, his successor abruptly resigned
two months later so he agreed to return to his old job at the end
of August 2008. He told the council he hopes it is the last time he
has to resign.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Hecht takes over as acting chief. He says
he plans to apply for the permanent job expected to be filled in
September.
