ELKO, Nev. (AP) - One of the two bowling alleys in Elko is closing its doors this fall after more than 10 years of business.
Desert Paradise Lanes owner J.D. Merrill says he recently sold the alley he and his son built and opened in 2001. He told the Elko Daily Free Press the new owner has other plans for the building where 400 to 500 bowlers were regulars.
The planned closing Oct. 1 will leave the Telescope Lanes as the only bowling alley in Elko.
That's disappointing to many, including Ken Wellington, the president of the Elko County chapter of the United States Bowling Congress Association. He says the only other option will be to travel to Winnemucca, Ely or Twin Falls, Idaho to bowl.
