SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Known best for devouring dozens of hotdogs at Coney Island, Joey Chesnut has set a new record at a barbeque rib-eating contest in Nevada.
Chesnut consumed nearly 14 pounds of pork ribs in 12 minutes Wednesday to claim the $2,500 first-place prize at John Ascuaga's Nugget World Rib-Eating Championship in Sparks.
His total of 13.76 pounds was 2 pounds more than runner-up Matt Stonie and nearly 4 pounds more than the previous record of 9.8 pounds that Chesnut set in 2008.
The 29-year-old California native told the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://tinyurl.com/qeon6ya) he ordered 21 pounds of ribs earlier this week to eat for "practice."
Chesnut ate 69 hotdogs and buns in 10 minutes on July 4 to claim his record seventh-consecutive title at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Contest in New York.
