ELY, Nev. (AP) - Firefighters in Nevada are mounting an aggressive attack on a wildfire consuming pinion, sagebrush and grasses in steep terrain about 2 miles east of the town of Ely.
Federal Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld says 120 firefighters are working to quell the Range Fire on almost 8
square miles near Moser Canyon.
They're being aided by three single-engine air tankers, one heavy aircraft, four helicopters and two bulldozers.
Hanefeld says the 5,000-acre fire was discovered shortly after noon Monday. The cause is being investigated.
No structures are threatened, but fire managers with the BLM,
Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Nevada Division of Forestry and
White Pine Fire Protection District are mounting a full-suppression
effort.
