10PM Sunday Update: Residents in Red Rock are breathing a sigh of relief after their homes were spared by a fast moving wildfire Sunday night.
As winds died down, fire crews working under joint command, were able to get the upper hand on the blaze.
By 7:30, smoke had cleared and people were allowed to return to their homes, none of which were damaged.
Two helicopters and an air tanker played a key role in dampening the flames.
As of 6:00 pm Sunday, at least 16 fires and major lightning strikes had been reported via the Sierra Front website.
RED ROCK, NV -- Fire crews from several agencies are working to put out multiple fires in eastern California and northwestern Nevada.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charles Moore confirms a 100-acre fire prompted evacuations near Red Rock Road and Chuckwagon Road in the North Valleys Sunday afternoon, but that fire is nearly contained.
Smaller fires burned in several other areas. Sierra Front's website shows small fires were reported from Douglas county all the way north to the Dogskin Mountain Range, which sits between Pyramid Lake and the California border. California fires reported include one near Loyalton and another near Grover Hot Springs in Markleeville.
