RENO, NV - Following a number of pedestrians being struck by vehicles while walking in marked crosswalks, police carried out a two stage operation aimed at curbing crosswalk related offenses.

A total of 50 people were cited on Friday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Friday for failure to yield violations as well as speeding and cell phone use while driving.

The operation was carried out at two locations during the day, and featured deputies dressing in bright orange shirts and hats. Once a vehicle had passed a preordained distance, the deputies would cross the street, allowing ample time for the vehicles to slow to a stop.

The operation was a joint effort with NHP.
