SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Political leaders from California and Nevada are heading to Lake Tahoe for the 17th annual gathering focused on protecting and restoring the lake and its surrounding basin.

Former Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to give the keynote speech Monday at Nevada's Sand Harbor State Park. The governors of both states will attend, along with California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, both Democrats.

California officials say one issue for discussion will be finding private money to supplement restoration projects.

The summit follows tensions between California and Nevada over how to balance lakeside development with environmental protections.

A compromise was reached in May to maintain the states' compact. A Nevada bill has been signed affirming that agreement, and a companion bill is pending in California.
