ELKO, NV - A man accused of fatally shooting a 26-year-old friend in an Elko Indian Colony home will go on trial in October.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports 33-year-old Thomas Caudill pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to charges of murder, assault, assaulting a federal officer and a weapons charge.
Prosecutors say Caudill on Aug. 5 climbed through the window of a friend's house and asked her to videotape him killing himself before he eventually fatally shot Wes Lozano, who lived in the home.
The FBI says Caudill was uncooperative during an interrogation when he removed his blood-strained shirt and threw it at investigators.
The FBI is leading the investigation and the U.S. attorney's office filed the charges because both men were members of the Elko Indian Colony and the shooting occurred on a federal reservation.
