CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Backers and opponents of two proposed
ballot initiatives in Nevada to ban abortions were resolute
Wednesday in their efforts a day after voters in conservative
Mississippi defeated a similar ballot measure there.
A coalition of groups, including the ACLU and Planned Parenthood of Nevada, hailed the vote in Mississippi that rejected the "personhood" proposal.
But supporters of the initiatives in Nevada say the vote has not dissuaded them in their efforts, and say their ultimate goal is to educate voters.
Legal challenges have been filed to the two Nevada initiatives to block them from the 2012 ballot.
A judge last year said a similar initiative proposed two years ago was "too general and vague in nature" to be placed on the ballot.
