Assembly Bill Altering Tax Distribution Passes

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The major tax measure Nevada Assembly speaker has been ushering forward for months has passed the Assembly floor unanimously.

Democratic Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick of North Las Vegas told fellow Assembly members Thursday that politics were removed from the process of formulating a complex distribution system that funnels money to local governments.

The consolidated tax involves distributing six taxes collected by Department of Taxation that are then doled out to more than 100 counties, cities, town and districts.

The amount each county and city receives is based on a complicated formula that includes factors such as property values and the consumer price index.

AB68 will now head to the Senate for consideration.
