A joint investigation by Detectives of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and the Fire Investigator from Sierra Fire Protection District has led to an arrest for the Woodchuck Fire.

Matthew Presto was arrested Tuesday and booked into Washoe County Jail on 3rd degree arson charges for the fire that occurred at the top of Woodchuck Circle in Caughlin Ranch this past summer.
The Woodchuck Fire was a wildland fire that started around 11:45 p.m. on July 15, 2011.

Presto was lighting off fireworks above Woodchuck Circle causing a 1.5 acre wildland fire and after the fire started Presto fled the area.

“This was a team effort from the beginning. Citizen reported the fire immediately and gave a description of a vehicle that was leaving the area. With the help of citizens and the evidence that was left at the scene, Detectives from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and myself were able to make the arrest of Matthew Presto. The total cost to taxpayers for this fire was $13,701.64, which Presto will have the pay back to the taxpayers.” said Prevention Captain Mark Regan.

Presto’s bail is set at $4,500. Prevention Captain Mark Regan would like to remind you that it is illegal to possess fireworks in Washoe County.
