The driver, who was killed when his big rig crashed into an Incline Village home, has been identified as Frederick Matthews of San Diego. His family says he was an experienced driver. Now they’re hoping than an investigation will provide answers that may prevent this type of accident from happening again.
“His face was so charred in the fire that we can't really see his face,” says Frederick’s sister Gabriella Abbot. She and the victim’s mother Elizabeth Namowicz were shocked by reports of the fiery accident that took his life. They say Frederick, who is from San Diego, had been driving truck for 10 years. They wonder why the escape ramp didn’t slow his truck down and save his life. The ramp is just one element of the accident under investigation. The service record of the truck and the weight of the cargo will also be examined as possible contributing factors to the crash. It may be weeks before investigators have a full understanding of the accident, but Matthew's mother hopes it will prevent a similar incident in the future.
