RENO, NV - The man who police say shot two police officers outside of the Pentagon, stayed in Reno before traveling to the nation's capitol. According to Washoe County Sheriff Mike Haley, John Patrick Bedell was arrested in February on drug charges. He was released on bail and had a court date set for this past Tuesday, March second. Haley says Bedell had a Nevada driver's license, was staying in a motel on South Virginia Street and was arrested near South Virginia Street and Longley Lane.

Thursday night, authorities say Bedell pulled a gun at the entrance to the Pentagon, shooting two police officers before being killed by return fire. Officials say the two wounded guards were officers Jeff Amos and Marvin Carraway, both of whom returned fire. They say a third guard they did not name also fired. Bedell was shot in the head and the left arm.

The officials are speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.
