The drownings occured on Wino Beach on the south side of Pyramid Lake. According to investigators, two adults described as a boyfriend and girlfriend were walking in the in the water with a ten and two year old and fell from a drop off about one hundred feet from shore.
Investigators say they were not strong swimmers. "The witness did say they found the ten year old splashing in the water and at that point they went into the water, shortly after that they saw something floating in the water and that ended up being the year old" says Sargeant Russell Petersen from Washoe County's HASTY Team.
According to Sargeant Petersen the mother of the two year old drove down highway 446 to the Pyramid Highway to the intersection of Eagle Canyon and La Posada where REMSA was able to revive the two year old.
She was taken to Renoun Medical Center.
The drownings are a cautionary tale of what can occur in a lake that does not have consistent depth. These drowning make a total of six at Pyramid Lake this year.
