The Nevada State Contractors Board is warning homeowners to beware of fall and winter scam artists who offer "good deals" on home repairs.
The Board says, during this time of year, homeowners are frequently approached by door-to-door scam artists looking to make a quick sale. These unlicensed contractors usually say they are in the neighborhood and can give you a good price on leftover materials.
The Nevada State Contractors Board says to protect yourself, make sure you only hire licenced contractors. It also says you should ask for references of the contractors past work, get a written contract, don't pay until you're satified with the work and never pay in cash.
Contacting without a license in Nevada is a misdemeanor for the first offense, a gross misdemeanor for the second offense and a Class E felony for the third offense.
