The Lucas family was watching March Madness when fire erupted and raced through their home on Cordone Ave. in Reno Friday morning. Five people, including two toddlers and a pregnant woman, barely escaped the family home of more than 50 years before it was destroyed by the flames, heat and smoke. Days later, there is little that can be salvaged from the ashes.
Emergency housing and assistance for the displaced family came immediately from the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. But that assistance is only temporary and the family is now struggling to put the pieces back together. Pete Lucas says despite the devastating loss, he is grateful for the outpouring of support his family has received from the community. Lucas says he’s not sure what they will do yet, but the generosity of neighbors and even complete strangers is giving the family strength to go forward.
A fund to help the Lucas Family has been set up through Wells Fargo Bank. To make a contribution, please go to any Wells Fargo branch and ask for the “Lucas Rebuild Fund”.
