ELY, Nev. (AP) - Four lawyers have applied to replace retiring 7th District Judge Dan Papez.
The applicants are 64-year-old Gregory Barlow of Caliente, 53-year-old Kelly Brown of Ely, 60-year-old Gary Fairman of Ely and 73-year-old Robert Gaston of Las Vegas.
Papez, whose district covers White Pine, Lincoln and Eureka counties in eastern Nevada, is retiring on Jan. 5.
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection now will conduct background investigations on the applicants and interview candidates before nominating three finalists for Gov. Brian Sandoval to consider.
Interviews will be conducted in public and are tentatively set for Jan. 22-23 in Ely.
