The city of Sparks is hoping to bolster its economy by attracting more tourists, and enticing residents to spend locally. The first step in that plan is deciding how to "sell" the city. They’ve hired a Seattle-based company to make Sparks a must see destination.
Business and community members are invited to participate in a week-long forum to discuss the creation of a marketing brand to enhance the economic future of Sparks. City officials want to highlight activities and attractions that will draw people into the area. In addition they’re hopeful residents will stay and spend leisure dollars in their own backyard.
Mayor Geno Martini says the city is beginning to develop new options for shopping and entertainment. He wants to use projects like the Legends Development to draw in new dollars. Martini is also hopeful that the company Destination Development Inc. will help Sparks be more competitive on a national scale. That means encouraging the community to take a critical look at what it has to offer. Is it enough to motivate tourists to drive in from other areas, and would you spend your hard-earned money here?
