CARLIN, Nev. (AP) - A small fire broke out at a gold mine in northeast Nevada but no one was hurt.
Officials for Newmont's Gold Quarry Mine near Carlin say some equipment caught on fire about 10:30 Tuesday night. Spokeswoman Mary Korpi says it began with a 23-yard-long diesel-powered Hitachi shovel.
She says that because there was no danger to people or concern about the fire spreading, the decision was made to allow the flamesto burn out themselves.
Korpi says the shovel was a total loss but there was no other damage.
