LOVELOCK, NV - The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the names of a woman and her husband who were in a rollover Wednesday on Interstate 80 near Lovelock.
The NHP says that afternoon, 73-year-old Viktor Kovalev of Sacramento was heading east on I-80 and veered toward the center median. He overcorrected, forcing his car into a metal mile marker and causing it to skid and slide across both lanes of traffic before it rolled several times, landing his Honda on its roof.
His wife, 66-year-old Rita Kovalev, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband sustained serious injuries and is in ICU at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. Both had been wearing seatbelts.
Both lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 were closed for approximately 25 minutes to stage the helicopter and load the patient.
