Activities begin on Friday, October 26 at the Great Basin Adventure Park at Rancho San Rafael in Reno. From 10am to 3pm, visitors will be able to pan for gold, make paving stones, explore a mine and examine mining artifacts provided by the Nevada Mining Association. Members of the University of Nevada, Mackay School of Mines competition team will also be on hand performing demonstrations and exhibitions. The Nevada Division of Minerals will teach kids about abandoned mine safety and bring hands-on educational displays of minerals.
In Carson City on Saturday, October 27, the Nevada Mining Association will host a booth at the 33rd Annual World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest during the Nevada Day Parade, which begins at 10am. Information on the mining industry will be available throughout the day. In addition to the parade, there will be exhibits, music, contests, a variety of booths and other family activities.
