Ashley Stuart was your typical teen. She was raised in a single parent home by her mother. She had a good life growing up, but made some choices that created obstacles for her future education.
While attending McQueen High School, she reached a point where she almost didn't graduate. She wanted to give up, but no one would let her, including her school counselor, vice principal and her mother. Through strength and perseverance, she overcame her obstacles and realized the importance of her education.
Ashley received her high school diploma and decided to fulfill her dreams and go to college. Just a few short weeks later, on June 25, 2007, she was killed in a senseless car crash.
Her mother, Kris, says she realized how difficult it is to help a child pursue higher education, when he or she isn't a perfect student. She decided to create the "Ashley's Second Chance" scholarship fund, to give other students the opportunities Ashley never had.
On Thursday, October 25th, from 4:30-9:00 pm, all Applebee's Restaurants in Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will donate 15% of all food sales to "Ashley's Second Chance." The fund will give an area student the opportunity to fulfill his or her dreams of higher education, and receive a much needed second chance at life.
You must bring the "Ashley's Second Chance" flyer to the restaurant. If you would like to receive one, please send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
