Nevada Sales Up 5.3% in July
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Taxable sales in Nevada rose 5.3% in July over the same month last year, representing the largest increase in more than two years.
The Nevada Department of Taxation on Monday reported merchants statewide sold $3.2 billion in goods during the month. The $252.5 million the state collected in sales and use taxes was up 4.3% compared with July 2009.
Nevada's construction industry continues to suffer double-digit declines. Those sales were down 29%.
But other industries tied to Nevada's tourism-based economy showed improvement. Accommodations were up 18.6%, and bar and restaurant sales 2%.
The report says 11 of Nevada's 17 counties recorded an increase in taxable sales for the month.
