The Vista Boulevard Widening project has wrapped up in Spanish Springs, bringing construction to a close a month earlier than expected. Q&D Construction broke ground on the stretch of roadway in October 2009. Project Manager Doug Maloy says the work was about 5 years over due to correct a bottleneck problem that occurred on a two lane stretch of Vista Boulevard between Los Altos parkway and Wingfield Parkway.”
In addition to creating better traffic flow, crews repaired existing lanes and added turn lanes. They also landscaped and raised medians. The plan also called for curbs, gutters, and a traffic signal at the intersection of Vista and Wingfield Hills. A 10’ wide paved shared use path now also runs along the west side of Vista.
The project was initially approved for $15,000,000 in funding, but the total estimate to complete the work was only $10,000,000. Money to fund the construction comes from voter approved RTC-5. Maloy says work is essentially complete, but minor cleanup will continue throughout the week. Some minor lane closures may be needed, but will not occur during peak traffic times.
