WASHINGTON (AP) - Three Americans, including a reporter for The Washington Post, appear to have been detained in Iran.
Post foreign editor Douglas Jehl said Thursday that the newspaper has received credible reports that Jason Rezaian, his Iranian wife and two freelance photojournalists were detained Tuesday evening in Tehran.
The newspaper says 38-year-old Rezaian holds both American and Iranian citizenship. His wife, Yeganeh Salehi, an Iranian citizen who has applied for U.S. permanent residency, works as a correspondent for a newspaper based in the United Arab Emirates. The two other Americans, who work with them as freelance journalists, have not been identified.
State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf says the department is aware of the report, but cannot comment further due to privacy issues.
