NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (AP) - The Pentagon is denying a report that three Mauritanians held by the United States have been returned to their country.

A prisoner support group says the prisoners arrived in Mauritania's capital aboard a United States military aircraft last night. The chairman of the Support Committee for Guantanamo Prisoners says two of the men were held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay. He says the third was held at the U.S. military base at the Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

The group says the detainees were turned over to Mauritanian police who may interview them before their release.

But a U.S. Defense Department spokesman says no detainees have been transferred from Guantanamo since October last year.
