Students in five states will be spending more time in the classroom.
Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Tennessee, will be part of a three year pilot program.
These states will add at least three hundred hours to their school calendars.
Schools will decide whether to make the school days longer or add more days to the year.
Federal, state and district funds will cover the cost. Meanwhile, education officials say spending more time in the classroom will give students a more well rounded curriculum.
