WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate is ready to approve President Barack Obama's choice to head the Labor Department as lawmakers continue honoring a bipartisan pact for acting on some of his top nominations. Next up will be votes on his selection to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

Final confirmation of Thomas Perez to become labor secretary is expected Thursday. Senators are then scheduled to debate whether to clear the way for a vote on Obama's nomination of Gina McCarthy to become EPA administrator.

On Wednesday, the Senate narrowly voted to end a filibuster against Perez, who is a Justice Department official. All but six Republicans voted against Perez after GOP lawmakers complained he has refused to give Congress his personal emails from a whistle-blower case he was involved in.
