SC Marine Drowns After Graduating from Boot Camp
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Beaufort County officials say a 19-year-old Marine drowned just a few hours after he graduated from boot camp.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that the Marine drowned Friday off Hunting Island State Park.
Officials say the Marine disappeared while swimming about 40 yards from the beach, south of the Hunting Island Lighthouse. A relative called 911 after losing sight of him.
The body was recovered Friday evening.
Officials at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island didn't immediately release the man's name.
