SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 28-year-old man has been identified as the miner who died Friday during a cave-in at a Utah coal mine.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Elam Jones died when he and another miner became trapped earlier in the day at a mine in Bear Canyon, about 10 miles west of Huntington.
Jones' mother is a city councilwoman of Huntington, a small mining town in central Utah. Jones' identity was confirmed by Huntington Mayor Hilary Gordon.
The other trapped miner was rescued and has been released from a hospital.
Federal officials say preliminary information shows a roof fall at the mine, which is part of the Castle Valley Mining Complex.
Messages left with the mine's operator, Rhino Resource Partners, were not immediately returned.
