WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (AP) - A neighbor describes Curtis Reeves as a friendly, "stand-up" guy. And the neighbor, Joe D'Andrea, says Reeves "must have just snapped" in a movie theater near Tampa, Fla., yesterday.

Reeves is accused of fatally shooting another moviegoer with whom he had argued over the other man's use of a cellphone for texting during the movie previews.

Reeves, a retired Tampa police officer, appeared in court today and was ordered held without bond on a second-degree murder charge.

The man who was killed was Chad Oulson, described by friends as a man who loved dirt bikes and his baby daughter. Friends say he'd been texting his daughter's daycare from the theater, angering Reeves.

A lawyer for Reeves says the former police officer was defending himself. He says Oulson threw something, possibly popcorn, at Reeves -- and that he had "every right to defend himself."

Personnel files from the Tampa police department show that Reeves led other agencies in gun safety training when he was with the force.
