WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Zoo says its female giant panda cub now weighs almost 10 pounds.
The zoo says the cub weighed in Friday at 9.68 pounds. Officials say the cub's nose is starting to lose its pink color and turn black like an adult panda.
The panda cub was born Aug. 23 and is only the second surviving panda cub born at the zoo. The first was a male named Tai Shan who was born in 2005 and was returned to China in 2010.
The cub will make her public debut at the zoo in early 2014. The zoo is currently letting the public vote on her name. The winning name will be revealed Dec. 1.
