WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 62-year-old ex-con who killed two upstate New York firefighters and then himself apparently mapped out a plan. Police say William Spengler typed a note saying he wanted to burn down his neighborhood and do what he does best, "killing people."
Word of the two- to three-page rambling note came Tuesday as authorities also discovered a body in Spengler's home that is believed to be his 67-year-old sister. A neighbor says Spengler hated her. Spengler's mother died in the house two months ago.
Authorities say Spengler carried three weapons in his Christmas Eve attack, presumably firing an assault rifle. It wasn't clear how he got the weapons since he was a felon who served 17 years in prison for manslaughter in the 1980 hammer slaying of his grandmother.
