More school eliminate cursive writing in schools as 45 states move toward national curriculum guidelines by 2014. The guidelines say that students have to be proficient in English, math, and computer keyboarding before they finish elementary school. According to the Associated Press, the guidelines don't include cursive handwriting. Some states did add a cursive requirement, while other states left it as an option.

While the wave of the future lies with computers; cursive still has its benefits. Cursive benefits youngsters' brains, coordination and motor skills, as well as connects them to the past, whether to handwritten historical documents like the Constitution or to their parents' and grandparents' letters.
