ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 66-year-old Slana man walked 900 yards back to his home for help after he was mauled by a brown bear.
Authorities say Andre Siegenthaler suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday about 250 miles northeast of Anchorage.
KTUU reports he was reportedly in stable condition. Hospital officials wouldn't release any information Wednesday.
Siegenthaler was mauled by a brown bear as he went to pick up something from a neighbor, Ed Bullock.
Bullock tells KTUU that Siegenthaler's wife said the attack happened very fast, and he didn't have time to pull out his bear spray.
Siegenthaler suffered bites to his right hip, both shoulders and arms, and had damage to both cheeks and an ear.
Slana is located about 50 miles southwest of Tok.
