AKRON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio jury has begun deliberations in the trial of an Ohio man charged with fatally shooting his wife as she lay debilitated in a hospital bed last year.
John Wise could face life in prison if convicted. The 68-year-old is pursuing an insanity defense.
Earlier Friday, jurors heard from a psychologist who testified that Wise shows no indication that he suffers from mental health problems and knows his actions were unlawful.
Dr. Lynn Luna Jones' testimony disagrees with that of an expert hired by the defense, who said the man was severely depressed. Wise's wife had suffered brain aneurysms.
Friends have called it a mercy killing, but that's not a legal defense in Ohio.
Prosecutors contend Wise's actions were intentional. Police say they found an apologetic note from Wise.
